Krupp has relied on Identity Developments to serve their web needs since 2003 when their original website was completely redeveloped. Like many firm's first website, their original website (designed elsewhere) was simply an online recreation of existing marketing materials. Since the site and images weren't optimized, page loading times were unacceptably long and the site simply didn't take advantage of what the web could offer. When we stepped in, we completely scraped their existing site and started over.
The website has undergone another redesign in 2005. Compared to the original design in 2003, time from ideation to launch was cut dramatically. This was mostly due to the site being developed in XHTML and a CSS, tableless design as we were able to simply cut and paste and reuse most of the existing content, add new content, and create a new CSS from scratch. Development of the redesigned site was roughly 20% of the time required to create the previous site. And while the site increased in size and was a complete redesign, it was done at less cost than the previous redesign.
A redesign should be about more than just a new look. It needs to progress with the company and its growth and evolution. Krupp's site needed a more refined upscale look that portrayed their image of quality. The new site focused on dramatic project images and the look and feel of an architectural magazine, yet continued to deliver the messages of a general contractor firm. More than a redesign, this was a realignment that brought the website into sync with who Krupp is today. Does your website represent you today, or you yesterday?
While the visual layout and feel changed dramatically, the underlying structure stayed the same… standards-based XHTML and CSS tableless design to provide faster page load times, greater accessibility, better indexing by search engines, and quicker and less expensive maintenance and modification.

New header images with a different image for each main section, clickable to the specific project.
Added new featured projects along left-hand side, with png alpha transparency caption bar (not naturally supported in IE browser) with special filter handling to enable in IE.
CSS, non-javascript, dropdown menu system, even featuring scalable menu text for greater accessibility. Using special HTML Components to enable hover effect in IE browser. Seen here with menu color change upon hover over link.
Added Feature projects under both main project categories.
Added value tag lines throughout the site along the upper right corner of the main content area to highlight and reinforce Krupp's values.
Dropped the left sidebar on the lowest level pages to allow greater focus on the specific project being looked at.
Very subtle "you are here" menu locator added as thin teal line under current section item... here seen under the Multi-Family Residential menu link.
New javascript popup enlargement window for thumbnails adds branding elements as well as copyright statement. Popup sizes itself to the image, includes a close link, and automatically closes if the users moves from the parent page.
While the popup is javascript controlled, a noscript degrade link was added to allow any visitors without javascript to view the larger image.
Previous site with original notes are listed below.
Concepted and completely reconstructed site. Site size went from 6 pages to 26 pages.
Home page features a randomly loaded feature image to create freshness and to pull visitors into the site.
New site yielded dramatically faster page load times.
Developed with accessibility in mind, all text is completely scalable, including the navigation menu, which also features CSS controlled rollover effects instead of being graphic dependent.
